IWJS Dartford and M25 tunnels cleaning contract extended

IWJS, an operating business of M Group Services, has signed a contract extension to continue delivering essential tunnel cleaning of the Dartford and M25 tunnels.

The three-year contract extension will cement the relationship between IWJS and its client Connect Plus Services, which has developed since 2019. Connect Plus Services, a joint venture of Balfour Beatty, Egis Road Operation UK and Atkins, has a 30-year contract with National Highways to operate and manage the M25 network, on behalf of Connect Plus.

IWJS minimises disruption for road users by operating its specialist tunnel and wall cleaning unit overnight during non-peak travel time.

The team of two operatives use a fast and environmentally friendly method to clean the tunnels and underpasses. The specialist tunnel cleaning unit has an adjustable hydraulic arm that brushes biodegradable detergent over the surface to be cleaned. The detergent and remaining dirt is then jet washed off, leaving clean walls behind.

Shaun Leeder, National Contracts Director at IWJS said: “We are delighted to be continuing our work to maintain a clean environment in the Dartford and M25 tunnels, some of the most well-used road tunnels in the UK.

“This contract extension is testament to the continuous commitment of our people to deliver high-quality, essential works which are crucial to the successful operations of key assets on some of Britain’s busiest roads. We are committed to operating in the most innovative and sustainable way, ensuring traffic can keep moving with minimum disruption from our cleaning services.”
